Shanghai scientists have developed new textile antibacterial and anti-fouling guards on the skin.

With the development of modern biomedicine, bacterial infection has become an increasingly serious problem. Donghua University revealed on the 27th that the team of academician Yu Jianyong and Prof. Xiaohong Hong has made important research progress in the field of antibacterial and antifouling of cotton fabrics, and developed a textile that can be used stably for a long time and can be antibacterial and antifouling. The related results were published in the internationally renowned journal Advanced Functional Materials under the title "Permanent Salt Nanogels with Permanent Antibacterial and Antibacterial Adhesion Properties".

According to statistics, in order to reduce the number of related infections and social and economic burdens, about 1 million cases of related infections, antibacterial materials capable of preventing the adhesion and proliferation of bacterial substrates on the surface, especially antibacterial textiles that can be used stably for a long time. It is vital. However, the bottlenecks such as complicated finishing process, poor biocompatibility and unsustainable antibacterial effect still restrict the development and promotion of antibacterial textiles.

The research team has been engaged in cutting-edge research in textile materials and textile design. In view of the above problems, a monomer such as styrene (St) was polymerized by a radical polymerization method, and a nano-hydrogel having a long-lasting antibacterial and antibacterial adhesion was synthesized in one step. The material has a regular spherical structure in which the antibacterial guanidine hydrochloride segment and the hydrophobic polycaprolactone molecular chain are effective for preventing adhesion of bacteria on the surface of the cotton fabric.

The nanohydrogel quickly kills the bacteria it contacts by destroying the cell membrane and causing cell lysis. Compared with the traditional antibacterial nano hydrogel material, the antibacterial component in the nano hydrogel is polymerized in the monomer form, has long-lasting antibacterial effect, good biocompatibility, strong bactericidal ability, and positive for preventing wound infection. effect. At the same time, the nano hydrogel can be grafted onto the surface of the cotton fabric material, so that the cotton fabric itself has the function of long-lasting antibacterial and antibacterial adhesion, and can effectively prevent the proliferation of bacteria on the cotton fabric. After 50 mechanical washings, the grafted cotton fabric has an antibacterial efficiency of more than 86% against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.

The nano hydrogel has good thermodynamic stability, can withstand various environments in the fabric finishing process, and develops its simple and convenient antibacterial finishing, which can be used for functional clothing, medical bandages and multifunctional antibacterial dressings and others. He is in the field of biomedical cellulose-based materials.
